Fourth Friday is coming up, and we've got a new show opening! "Halftime Show" will open on Friday, August 28th, 6-10pm. Stop by for live music, food, and over 40 artworks, all free and open to the public.

This show pulls out all the stops, exhibiting the first two years of work by Deborah Lash, InterArts graduate student at GMU. It features photography, dress sculptures, hat sculptures, dresses from paper, performance videos, and installations.

Acrobat is preferred as is much easier to read then a text file

The applications are reviewed continually, the sooner you send yours in however, the more likely you are to be able to use the space :)

There's fresh work in the gallery! For Fourth Friday on July 25th we had music, brownies, and visitors of all ages checking out Blake Turner's newly installed video projections.

The gallery will be open every Friday evening from 6-10 until the end of August, so stop by and bring friends to experience the artwork and browse the library of free books.

Big things are happening...

An Alumni Show comes down on the 30th. As a closing event we are going to have an artist talk on Tuesday the 21st at 7:oopm. This will begin with questions for the artists about their work and life after graduation and then will open to the floor for anyone to ask whats on their mind.

Also once this show comes down there will be a print/art sale to help clean out the studios at Mason before our move into our new building in June as well as a fundraiser. The event is going to be 2 weeks long and will be hosted by the printmaker's guild.

George Mason University printmaker’s guild is a student-based organization with goals to promote printmaking in the college and the community. We would like to use “Point in Space” gallery in Fairfax Virginia for two weeks in May to display prints and to sell promotional items, including print works, in order to raise money for student lectures and trips to printmaking conventions. Our goal is to fully fund our trip to the 2010 SGC Conference in Philadelphia. We will have volunteers to host the openings on Saturday, Sunday, and lunchtimes during the two weeks in May.

FAIRFAX, VA. Point In Space Gallery proudly presents An Alumni Show – a selection of work by George Mason AVT Alumni. This curated group exhibition brings together works which use subject matter and process to investigate environments, relationship and technology.

This is the second show at the new gallery. “.” is a grassroots student-run alternative exhibition and gathering space. Started as a place for GMU students to gain professional exhibition experience, “.” is an alternative art environment to gather and exchange ideas in Fairfax. The space was generously donated by Kimco Realty and will be used to help build a bridge between GMU and Fairfax City.

An Alumni Show, curated by Shannon McCarty, gives us insight into the creative post-graduate progression of GMU’s AVT alumni. With works across various types of medium and matter, An Alumni Show artists Christin Boggs, Adam Bradley, Mike Matason, Lisa McCarty, Jimmy Mclean, Jill Pichocki, Jeff Sapsford, Susan Stacks and Charles Westerman all come together to show the vast possibilities in art making and what happens after graduation.

Yesterday we uninstalled the Parade show. It was a great first show for the space and I really think it captured a good vibe that we are trying to create for this space. As this show comes down many new things are going on in the space.
We will be painting this upcoming week, thanks to the Phillips Collection for generously donating loads of paint! We will also be gearing up and installing the next show - The Alumni show which will feature work from: Christin Boggs, Susan Stacks, Jimmy Mclean, Lisa McCarty, Charles Westerman, Adam Bradley, Mike Matason, Jeff Sapsford and hopefully Jill Pichoki ;)
Sue made some contacts and we will hopefully be getting a couple interns from the Arts Management (MAM) program to help out in the space. We have interviewed a couple candidates and we are very excited about what is ahead for us in the next couple months.
Lastly, for now, we are looking to create a space within "." for artists to hang out and relax. We are looking for donations of books, magazines etc to create a space to read, hang out and chat with like mided people.
Things are looking up for "." so stay tuned for more updates and photos of the evolution of "."

...After the closing ceremony for the festival at dawn, everyone is welcome to enjoy a moment of rest before joining the 10 a.m. “Parade to the Point” on Saturday, February 21, traveling along the sidewalks from campus to the new Point in Space Gallery in Old Town Fairfax. This colorful promenade will, like the Pied Piper, invite more revelers along the way. The parade will end at University and North Street for the opening moment of the gallery, which will feature work by Mason Art and Visual Technology students. Point in Space Gallery is generously sponsored by Kimco Realty in Old Town, Fairfax. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

"." was open for a few hours this weekend thanks to artists Sean Watkins, Deborah Lash & Gwynneth Van Laven. The addition of a sidewalk sign welcomed afternoon strollers enjoying pleasant weather to come inside the space.

Lots of interesting dialogue was exchanged between the public & the artists. The general consensus from the public was excitement to know Fairfax now has a space for contemporary art.

First Annual Winter Sidewalk Arts Parade - 2.21.09

Throughout the night and wee hours of Friday night/Saturday morning, about 12 artists labored over mysterious projects in the sculpture studio that seemed to have no correlation between them. (This was one of the experimental studios, the "Make A Parade" workshop, part of the 24 hour Art Marathon). As the dawn broke and the chill subsided, several faculty members, adjuncts, friends, grad and undergrads began to gather behind the FAB, and assemble into some ragtag group that called itself a parade. It was glorious in it's diversity of people, objects and modes of transportation. The 1st Annual Winter Sidewalk Arts Parade was initiated by artists in Floating Lab and Workingman Collectives and collaborators within AVT. The Parade was an effort to highlight community collaborations like parades, walkability within Fairfax and the performance/spectacle of art in public. The Parade walked/rode/ambled/pushed itself to downtown Fairfax where the artists rolled it up into a new gallery space called Point in Space Gallery off University drive. This is a must see but the links below will also give you an idea as to what the hell happened that night and mornin.
